Four Continents: Art and the Portuguese Expansion

Coinciding with Encompassing the Globe. Portugal and the World in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries, the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga´s exhibition devoted to the art and the early development of the Portuguese empire, Jorge Welsh, Oriental Porcelain & Works of Art presented a one-day conference covering related subjects by an international group of specialists. The conference was held in Jorge Welsh’s Lisbon gallery, and highlighted the most recent scholarship that spans the diverse territories touched by the Portuguese expansion: Africa, India, Brazil, China, and Japan.

Due to the number of international collectors and scholars participating in the conference, lectures were presented in English.
