Kraak Porcelain

The Rise of Global Trade in the Late 16th and Early 17th Centuries

Lisbon gallery: November 19, 2008

To coincide with our latest exhibition: Kraak Porcelain: The Rise of Global Trade in the Late 16th and Early 17th Centuries, Jorge Welsh Oriental Porcelain and Works of Art organized a conference on Kraak Porcelain, which was held in our new Lisbon gallery on the 19th of November. The experts who presented lectures were Dra Maria Antónia Pinto de Matos, Director of Museu do Azulejo, who spoke on "Kraak Porcelain for the Portuguese Market, Armorial Porcelain and Daily Use Porcelain" and Teresa Canepa, researcher at Jorge Welsh, Oriental Porcelain and Works of Art, who spoke on "Kraak Porcelain: The Rise of Global Trade in the Late 16th and Early 17th Centuries". The well-attended conference was a success and was attended by many experts in ceramics and asian art in Lisbon as well as many serious collectors. Opened in January 2008, our new Lisbon gallery has been specially designed to display works of art and to host our special theme exhibitions and conferences like the present one. The gallery is extremely versatile with facilities for conferences, workshops, as well as a section dedicated to the sale books focusing on oriental art.
