"This booklet is divided into two main parts: the Introduction, comprising background material, accompanied by Mary Greensted's note on the provenance of the S. Berkeley Smith Collection; and the Catalogue proper, describing the exhibits. The exhibits are arranged according to their categories: celadon stonewares, subdivided by decoration whether appliqué, incised or impressed; then porcelain, first monochromes from Shantou ('Swatow') and Dehua, then those painted under-glaze blue and those with enamels on the glaze; in the last two categories a chronological arrangement is attempted." excerpt from the Preface by Peter Hardie, 9 July 1982.
