The author, Dr. Jan Wirgin, Head Curator of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm at the time of this publication, has worked on this subject, his doctoral thesis, for many years, assembling material from private and museum collections throughout the world. This publication contains 570 illustrations and its wide scope had made it an indispensable source of reference for all those seriously interested in Chinese ceramics in general and the Sung Dynasty in particular. Originally published as the Bulletin of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, No. 42, 1970, in a very limited edition quickly out of print. This reprint of the original, in a limited edition of 1000 copies has been augmented by an errata list and an index to plates by the author.
