For over a decade one of the priorities of the Metropolitan Museum’s master plan has been the strengthening and development of the Department of Asian Art. Approximately 41,000 feet of gallery space has been created, and new programs – of collecting, exhibition, and publication – have been successfully undertaken. Established in 1915, the department now cares for over fifty thousand objects from China, Japan, Korea, India, and Southeast Asia.
